Multi-instrumentalist Joseph Bagale grew up surrounded by music, keeping up with a strong musical legacy carried on by his father, John Bagale. Focusing on the drums, the young virtuoso won his first award at 17, for Outstanding Rhythm Section in the Essentially Ellington Competition. While studying at the Eastman School of Music in jazz performance with a focus on drums, Bagale also tackled piano, guitar and bass, among many other instruments. Now a resident of San Francisco, Bagale keeps an active profile, regularly performing with the Jazz Mafia Collective and Matt Berkeley Trio, as well as his own group, The Dirty Workshop. For his lauded self-titled debut album in 2008, the versatile musician not only composed and produced all tracks, but also played nearly every instrument.
