The Slew
Origin: Canada
Genres: Electronica, Hip-hop, Rock
Brainchild of Vancouver-born Eric San, a.k.a. DJ Kid Koala, The Slew was first and foremost meant to be the soundtrack to a documentary movie that never saw the light of day. Four years in the making, the project involved mixing turntablist hip hop scratches with hard rock guitars and raw rock ‘n' roll. The end result was 100%, an album released online for free in 2009, in collaboration with producer Dylan Frombach, aka Dynomite D. Live, The Slew features no less than six turntables and the high voltage energy of two former members of Australian hard rock group Wolfmother, Chris Ross and Myles Heskett.
