Born in New Jersey, prolific pianist George Colligan first studied the trumpet as a child, pursuing his studies of the instrument up until his early 20s at Baltimore's Peabody Conservatory. Turning his interest to jazz piano, he started performing around Baltimore, before making the move to NYC in the mid-1990s. In 1996, he released Activism, the first of many recordings, followed by Newcomer the following year. In 2000, he began a long-time association with Cassandra Wilson, and has since acted as sideman to Lonnie Plaxico, Jack DeJohnettte and Don Byron, to name but a few. In 2009, Colligan released Come Together, with his three-piece combo of bassist Boris Koslov and drummer Donald Edwards.
