JT Lewis grew up surrounded by music in Jamaica, Queens, in NYC. A gifted young child, he learned to play drums at 10 and later on studied jazz composition at City College of New York, while continuing to study drums in between classes, under the legendary Freddie Waits. After a brief international tour with Bobbi Humphrey in 1976, Lewis moved back to NYC and quickly blossomed into one of the city's most in-demand session drummers. Throughout his career, Lewis has played, recorded and collaborated with over 200 artists. The original drummer for Vernon Reid's Living Colour, Lewis was also co-leader of the trio Harriet Tubman in the late 1990s, with guitarist Brandon Ross. In 2010, he took part in the Bitches Brew Revisited project.
