Born to a Chinese Father and Icelandic Mother in Vancouver, Montréal-based Courtney Wing's multicultural influences range from the Chinese percussions he was taught as a child to the flamenco he learned while busking in the South of France in his early twenties. Always the great traveler, Wing recorded his first album For the Good Times (2001) in New Orleans, with the help of lap steel great Kim Deschamps. After a Canadian tour and a winter spent composing new songs, Wing assembled a string orchestra and released his sophomore album Starlight Shuffle in 2005, to critical praise. His third album, the symphonic Bouquet of Might and Fury (2010), features an impressive 10-piece opera ensemble and a full orchestra, with members of Montréal heroes Godspeed! You Black Emperor, and Bell Orchestre.
