The Artie Shaw Orchestra
Origin: United States
Genres: Big Band, Swing
Clarinettist, arranger and bandleader Artie Shaw and his big band defined popular American culture throughout the 1930s, 40s and 50s with some of the most popular hits of all time such as Stardust, Moonglow and Carioca. Formed in 1938 after the international smash hit Begin the Beguine, the orchestra featured some legendary collaborators, including Billie Holiday and drummer Buddy Rich. Preferring to concentrate on various professional endeavours, Shaw called it quits in 1955, only to reform his Orchestra again in 1983. Even after his passing in 2004, the band has continued performing worldwide, and remains one of the most successful big band orchestras to this day.
