Gipsy Kings
Origin: France
Genres: Latin, Pop
Widely considered as the group who brought contemporary flamenco music to the world's attention, The Gipsy Kings have been singing together since the 1970s, starting out as traditional Gypsy music street performers in France. With the help of French music producer Claude Martinez in 1986, the band of brothers and cousins transformed their sound into something unheard of at the time: a combination of traditional flamenco and Gypsy influences with rock and pop. The group scored two international Top 10 hits in 1987 with Djobi Djoba and Bamboleo, and a Gold album in the US two years later. Since the middle of the 1990s, The Gipsy Kings have released a great number of critically acclaimed albums, including Love & Liberté (1994), Somos Gitanos (2001) and Pasajero (2007).
