Italian singer-songwriter Carmen Consoli picked up the guitar at age nine. Five years later, she was fronting cover band Moon's Dog Party. Her strong personality and unique vocal signature caught the attention of Cyclope Records in her home town of Catania. The label released her first solo effort, in 1996. With its dozen original compositions, Due Parole showed a lot of promise. Recorded four years later, Stato di Neccesità achieved a great degree of maturity as well as unprecedented commercial succes. A massive tour followed, which spawned material for a live album (2001). Consoli has since worked on expanding her following, experimenting with both English and French. The album Elettra came out in 2009.
