La Fanfare du Belgistan
Origin: Belgium
Genres: Jazz, Manouche jazz (Gypsy jazz)
Formed in 2001, la fanfare du Belgistan assembles seven musicians from different backgrounds: Some hail from an improvisation collective, while others come from the rock band Orange Kazoo. The Belgian group's impressive arsenal of instruments - including soprano, alto and baritone saxophones, trumpet, sousaphone, derbouka, tapan, karkabes and guembri - give the songs a decidedly festive tone. In 2009, the album Musiques et danses du Belgistan was released. Shortly after, the outfit came to the Festival, bringing with it a rich repertoire of jazz, Balkan and Arab compositions.
