Jim Doxas

Origin: Quebec, Canada

Main instrument: Drums/percussion

Genre: Jazz

Born in Montreal into a musical family—his father George Doxas is a multi-instrumentalist, owns a recording studio, and is producer and programmer for the Segal Centre; his brother Chet Doxas is a veteran saxophonist—Jim Doxas revealed his talent on the drums exceedingly early: he was described as ‘gifted’ on the skins at the age of 3! He studied music at Cégep Vanier and then at McGill University, under the tutelage of Pete Magadini. Fifteen years into his career as a pillar of the Montreal jazz scene, Jim Doxas has appeared on about a hundred albums and performs over 200 concerts a year, including almost 70 with veteran pianist Oliver Jones, working as his drummer since 2004. He can also be heard playing with a number of other noted musicians, including Térez Montcalm, John Abercrombie and Joe Lovano, and also teaches at McGill. He launched Blind Leap, his first album as a bandleader, in 2014.
