Fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish, Magos Herrera is equally well versed in the rich vocabulary of jazz. Blending elements of world music such as Afro-Cuban and Brazilian with her classical jazz training, Herrera "creates a new style of Latin scat," according to the Miami Herald. Although the Mexico City native moved to New York in 2007, she remains active in her hometown as a teacher, TV host and producer, and actress. An accomplished and prolific vocalist, Herrera has recorded 10 albums in as many years. Distancia, recorded with the help of guitarist Lionel Loueke, was released in 2009. Mexico Azul came out the following year.
