Po'Girl

The group Po'Girl is made up of Toronto-born Allison Russel and Montreal-born Awna Teixeira. Both left difficult home environments as teens, and music has since served as their outlet and saving grace. Their first (eponymous) album was released in 2003. Some six years later, the group launched its fifth CD, featuring guitarist Benny Sidelinger and drummer JJ Jones. Titled Deer in the Night, this effort is a mix of soul, folk, jazz and country.
