This eclectic quintet weds the best of Central and Western Africa-soukous, rumba, dry guitar-with elements of jazz and underground rock. Its leader, guitarist Nathaniel Braddock, is a professor of African guitar and a veteran of the Chicago jazz scene. The band's lineup also includes vocals, sax, trumpet, bass and percussion. After interpreting songs by traditional Congolese artists, the group began to write their own compositions. OBDBI's rousing African rendition of the New Order classic, Bizarre Love Triangle, earned the band a richly deserved reputation.
