John Butler was 11 years when his family moved from California to Western Australia. As a teen, he discovered writing, guitar and song and one day inherited his grandfather's Dobro guitar. On the heels of his critically acclaimed debut album - a self-produced effort - the John Butler Trio launched Three in 2001. The trio's sophomore album went certified silver in Australia, as did Sunrise Over Sea, the jam band's 2004 release, a collection of songs integrating pop, blues, folk and reggae. A grandmaster of the slide guitar, Butler has recorded two live albums with his trio. In 2007, he released Grand National.
