The ever-popular Harlem Gospel Choir is among the leading gospel groups in the United States. Formed in 1986 by Allen Bailey, it includes some 60 members ranging in age from 17 to 70. Known the world over for its songs of faith and hope, the Harlem Gospel Choir also raises funds for children in need. Since its inception, the choir has worked with a variety of performing artists, from Diana Ross to Harry Belafonte, and from Cindy Lauper to U2. It also performed for Pope John Paul II.
