DeVotchKa was formed in Denver, Colorado, in 1997. The multi-instrumentalist quartet began as an accompaniment group for skit sows. Quickly, a growing circle of admirers was attracted to their musical explorations and refreshing and singular style, which draws its roots in European and Oriental traditional music (Slavic as well as Yiddish). The group scored the original soundtrack to the independent film Little Miss Sunshine, released in 2006, which was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Picture.
