San Juan native Miguel Zenon studied at the famed Escuela libre de musica. His formal jazz training began later, at Boston's Berklee College of Music. Around that time, the Porto Rican got his first professional experience playing with drummer Bob Moses. After receiving his masters from the Manhattan School of Music in 2001, he started collaborating with a host of well-established musicians, including Charlie Haden and David Sanchez. In 2004, Zenon was one of the founding members of the SF Jazz Collective. Looking Forward, his first recording as a leader, came out in 2002. His discography comprises a handful of albums, including Ceremonial (2004), Jibaro (2005), and Esta Plena (2009). In addition to recording and touring, the saxophonist devotes himself to teaching.
