Masters of an explosive fusion of nueva flamenco, instrumental heavy metal and jazz, and renowned for explosive live performances bursting with energy and creativity powered by acoustic guitars and a fearsome rhythm, Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela have been wowing international audiences for over 15 years. Raised on flamenco, rock and jazz, and die-hard fans of hard rock, Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero were initially a romantic couple as well when they launched their musical journey in Mexico in thrash metal band Tierra Acida. At the turn of the millennium, the duo–Rodrigo on solo guitar and Gabriela on rhythm–headed to Dublin, firing up a burgeoning live rep across Ireland. After putting out a pair of demos in the early 2000s drawing on such influences as Metallica, Led Zeppelin and Slayer, Rodrigo and Gabriel released a live album in 2004 and a self-titled disc in 2006, topping the charts. Since then, their growing worldwide popularity has reached the U.S., with 4 studio albums including 11:11 (2009) and 9 Dead Alive (2014), sales of over 1.5 million, contributions to the soundtracks of Pirates of the Caribbean and Puss In Boots, and world tours.
