This Montreal-based group was created by musician and singer Murray Lightburn in 1995. Their music, influenced by Britpop, is enriched with dense and luxuriant orchestrations dominated by Lightburn's lyrical flights. While often compared to Blur and the Smiths, which brought the band international recognition, The Dears have a signature sound that's all their own. Although there have been several personnel changes since the band's creation, founding member Lightburn carried the torch. Their fourth CD, Missiles, was released in 2008, followed by Degeneration Street three years later.
