Comprised of about 10 musicians from various horizons, this Norwegian group is considered by many to be the precursor to the Scandinavian nu jazz movement. Founded by the brothers Lars and Martin Horntveth (respectively saxophonist and drummer) and by Ivar Christian Johansen (trumpeter), Jaga Jazzist made a first album, Jaevla Jazzist Grete Stitz (1996) before being picked up by the prestigious label Ninja Tune. Blending jazz, trip-hop and electro, A Livingroom Hush (2001) was designated Jazz Album of the Year by the BBC, in England. The Stix (2003), What We Must (2005) and One-Armed Bandit (2010) followed, without counting numerous EPs, compilations and collaborations outside the band. In 2013, the band explores new ground with the album Jaga Jazzist Live with Britten Sinfonia.
