Ranee Lee

1942 -

Origin: United States / Quebec, Canada

Main instrument: Vocal

Genres: Jazz, Vocal jazz

The multi-talented singer, actress, writer, and television host Ranee Lee is renowned for her ability to channel the grand dames of jazz. She gave an award-winning performance on stage and screen as Billie Holiday, and paid pitch-perfect homage to Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald in the musical and double album Dark Divas. Yet the Montreal-based chanteuse has crafted a style all her own, imbuing a unique sense of drama into each of her albums. Her first release, Deep Song, featured Oliver Jones and Milt Hinton, and she has since collaborated with Herbie Ellis and Clark Terry, among others.
