Joshua Rager
Origin: Ontario, Canada
Main instrument:
Piano
Genre: Jazz
A favourite of musicians and critics alike, Joshua Rager crafts and performs innovative arrangements with an eclectic ear and experimental hand. After graduating with a degree in jazz piano from McGill University, Rager headed to New York on a Canada Council Artist Development Grant to study with pianist Kenny Werner in 2002. While there, he met and was mentored by trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, who has described Rager as representing "the cutting edge of Canadian Jazz." Fresh from an intense learning curve south of the border, the pianist returned home and formed his self-titled sextet the following year. Rager released Kananaskis in 2012.
