Wallace Roney

1960 -

Origin: United States

Main instrument: Trumpet

Genre: Jazz

Child prodigy from his first blow of the trumpet at the astounding age of 5, Philadelphia-born Wallace Roney is today one of the finest trumpet masters of our time. In his formative years, the aspiring young musician studied with three of the world's greatest trumpet players: Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw and Miles Davis, with whom he was especially close and whose influence can often be heard in Roney's impeccable style and technique. Since his first gig with the Art Blakey Orchestra at the age of 15, he has played and recorded with a veritable Who's Who of jazz, including Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, and in 1991, was invited by Davis to participate in the now legendary Miles Live at Montreux concert. In 2010, Roney released If Only for One Night, followed by Home two years later.
