Bill Charlap
1965 -
Origin: United States
Genre: Jazz
This pianist hails from a musical family: his father, Moose, was a Broadway composer, his mother, Sandy Stewart, a pop and cabaret singer who starred on the Perry Como Show and worked with Benny Goodman, among others. Bill Charlap cannot remember a time when he wasn't plating the piano. In the late 1980s, after completing his classical music studies, he took a serious interest in jazz and joined the Gerry Mulligan Quartet. This versatile pianist is equally at ease as part of a trio or as an accompanist. He excels in a variety of styles, including traditional jazz and the Great American Songbook. Bill Charlap is married to Canadian pianist Renee Rosnes, with whom he recorded the album Double Portrait in 2010.
