Raised by a traveling musical family led by her Salvation Army minister parents, singer-songwriter and pianist Elizabeth Shepherd grew up performing in her father's musicals all over Canada and France for over a decade. After studying French poetry in France and later jazz piano at Montreal's McGill University, the aspiring musician moved to Toronto, where she first landed a job as a waitress in a piano bar, only to soon be promoted to piano-entertainment duties. Two years later, she released her first album, Start to Move, landing her two Canadian Juno nominations in 2007. Her unique jazz, samba and blues-infused style soon got noticed on an international scale, and in 2010, she released her third album, the lauded Heavy Falls the Night. Rewind followed in 2012 and The Signal in 2014.
