Dave Douglas

1963 -

Origin: United States

Main instrument: Trumpet

Genres: Avant-garde, Jazz

One of the most celebrated and creative trumpeters around today, prolific jazz musician/composer Dave Douglas has recorded well over 25 albums since his solo debut Parallel Worlds, in 1993. The New Jersey-born born virtuoso picked up his first trumpet at the age of 9 and focused his studies on the instrument throughout his academic life. As well as collaborating with a host of musicians, from Patricia Barber to John Zorn, Douglas has initiated many a musical project, including Nomad and Keystone, the latter an electronic sextet inspired by movies and their soundtracks. Set to film screenings onstage, the ensemble includes turntables, horns and electric piano. A collaborative effort with filmmaker Bill Morrison, Keystone's third effort album, Spark of Being, was released in 2010. Be Still followed two years later.
