David Liebman

1946 -

Origin: United States

Main instrument: Saxophone

Genre: Jazz

One of the most influential jazz musicians of his generation, classically trained multi-instrumentalist and composer David Liebman first took an interest in jazz after seeing John Coltrane perform live. In the early 1970s, the New York native started his professional journey working for the likes of Elvin Jones and Miles Davis and collaborating with a slew of artists. After founding the David Liebman Quintet in 1977, he formed the collective ensemble Quest in 1981, with bassist George Mraz and drummer Billy Hart. In the late 1980s, Liebman started dedicating more time to teaching in between his busy schedule of touring and recording. In 2010, his name appeared on at least three albums, including big band effort Live: as Always.
