Norwegian Terje Rypdal is regarded as one of the most influential jazz guitarists of his generation. A versatile player boasting an eclectic resume, he started out with rock groups in the late 1960s before embracing jazz and classical music. Classically-trained, he studied with Finn Mortensen at the Oslo Music Conservatory and composed several operas and symphonies. Rypdal also studied improvisation with George Russell. An ECM stalwart, he has recorded many classics for the German label, including 1975's Odyssey. Over the years, Rypdal has worked with a host of jazz greats, namely Jack DeJohnette, Jan Garbarek, Miroslas Vitous, and Palle Mikkelberg. Recorded with the help of trumpeter Mikkelberg and the Bergen Big Band, Crime Scene came out in 2010.
