Fanfare Ciocarlia

Origin: Romania

Genre: World

In 1996, two Germans discovered a wedding and baptism brass band in a small Romanian village. Enraptured, they invited the 12 musicians on a German tour: the event was a huge success, launching Fanfare Ciocarlia (“Lark’s Song” in Romanian). Berlin label Piranha Muzik brought us their first album, Radio Pascani (1998), and the group zoomed onto international radar, touring the world and sending crowds into dance frenzies with their pioneering Balkan beat. Their repertoire embraces the fiery rhythms of traditional Romanian music, jazz classics (Caravan by Duke Ellington) and film music (James Bond). Fanfare Ciocarlia have released 9 albums, including Devil's Tale (2014), a collaboration with Canadian guitarist Adrian Raso.
