NOMO
Origin: United States
Genre: R&B/Soul/Funk
Led by multi-instrumentalist and University of Michigan jazz studies graduate Elliot Bergman, NOMO is a six-piece orchestra that blends afrobeat, avant-garde, funk and jazz. Formed in 2003 in Ann Arbour, Michigan, the group's other core members include Dan Piccolo on drums, Dan Bennett on sax and Erik Hall on guitar. After releasing a first EP that same year, NOMO garnered much praise for its energetic performances and for its flawless takes on afrobeat sounds, drawing comparisons to Fela Kuti. In 2004, NOMO released a first self-titled album, eventually leading up to a record deal with Ubiquity Records in 2006. The acclaimed group released a series of popular albums since, namely Ghost Rock in 2008 and, more recently, Invisible Cities in 2009.
