Drawing inspiration from Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, this Québec pianist developed her own inimitable sound, making a remarkable debut in 1983. A prolific artist, she has churned out several albums as a soloist, in addition to countless collaborations in the studio and onstage with big names such as Kenny Wheeler, Paquito D'Rivera, and Chick Corea. A Festival favourite, Desmarais received the Oscar Peterson Award in 2002. In addition to her packed touring schedule and studio recordings, she finds time to teach jazz piano at the Cégep Saint-Laurent in Montréal.
