This trumpet player is Italy's foremost gift to the jazz world. Inspired by Miles Davis and Chet Baker, Rava's career began long ago in the clubs of Turin. In the early 60s, he formed a free-jazz quartet with Don Cherry, Max Waldron and Steve Lacy. In 1972 he recorded his first album as the featured musician. As well, Rava has played his part in some prestigious collaborations, particularly with pianist Paolo Fresu. The distinguished Italian gave four concerts at the 2002 Festival as part of the Invitation series.
