One of the most gifted bassists of his generation, John Patitucci started out in rock before developing an interest in jazz and classical music. The Brooklyn native began as a studio musician on the West Coast. In 1985, he played in a pair of Chick Corea groups, Acoustik and Electrik. Two years later, he released the first in a series of albums as a bandleader. A highly sought-after collaborator, he’s brought his versatility and finesse to projects helmed by some of the world’s finest jazzmen, including Roy Haynes, Wynton Marsalis and Wayne Shorter, who enlisted him as a permanent member of his quartet in 2000. Alongside these activities, the bassist also devotes himself to teaching as well as a variety of compositional projects, including for film.
