Streetnix

Origin: Quebec, Canada

Genres: Big Band, Jazz

Co-led by saxophonist Jennifer Bell and trumpet player Bill Mahar - both originating from Halifax -, the Montréal based Streetnix brass quintet has become a staple of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, performing at the yearly event since the group's debut in 1987. With members Dave Grott on trombone, Christopher Smith on tuba and Jim Doxas on drums, the ensemble favors jazz and big band era standards, as well as Mahar originals. Alongside Streetnix, Bell and Mahar also lead the Altsys Jazz Orchestra, a 13-piece ensemble that specializes in renditions of Canadian jazz compositions. Our Roots Are Showing was released in 2001.
