Origin: Quebec, Canada

Genre: World

This Montreal group came into being at the instigation of Gabriel Aldama, a jazz guitarist by training. After studies at Concordia University, he discovered the Nigerian master of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti. He subsequently brought together eight musicians to create music around a festive and hypnotic musical concept. To these influences, the members of Afrodizz added the more urban flavours of jazz, rock, funk and hip-hop. With their first independently produced album, Kif Kif (2004), they drew the attention of the British label Freestyle, which distributed the album in Europe. The disc Froots (2006) put them on the map internationally. Afrodizz released its third disc, Sounds From Outer Space, during the Festival's 2011 edition.
