Self-taught pianist and multi-instrumentalist Bugge Wesseltoft hails from Porsgrunn, Norway. Born in 1964, the young man started playing his first piano keys from as early as 3, and immersed himself in jazz music soon after thanks to his father, jazz guitarist Erik Wesseltoft. Playing in various groups throughout the 1980s, he joined a jazz quartet in 1991 with Nils Petter Molvaer, the first of many future collaborations with the legendary trumpeter. The year 1994 saw the birth of a new project, A New Conception of Jazz, inspired by Oslo's bubbling DJ scene, blending free jazz with electronic house and dub music. The project spawned worldwide tours and four albums, including the popular Moving in 2001. In 2009, Bugge concentrated on his solo projects, and released Playing.
