David Binney

1961 -

Origin: United States

Main instrument: Saxophone

Genre: Jazz

World-renowned alto saxophonist David Binney is considered one of the greatest young jazz performers of our modern time. Born in Miami, on August 2, 1961, to two young university students and music fans, his parents' record collection had a profound influence on him and served as an early introduction to the music of Coltrane, Davis, Shorter and more. As a young man, Binney studied saxophone in L.A. and later in NYC under Phil Woods, and in 1989 was able to record his first album Point Game, through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Since the 1990s, Binney has worked with a wealth of artists, including Aretha Franklin, David Gilmore and Maceo Parker, created his own label Mythology, and has steadily released albums, either as a leader or co-leader.
