Femi Kuti
1962 -
Origin: Nigeria
Main instrument:
Saxophone
Genres: R&B/Soul/Funk, World
Like his little brother Seun, Femi Kuti has followed in the footsteps of his famous father, Fela. After a few years with Egypt 80, his father's mythical group, Femi Kuti started his own band, Positive Force. When the king of Afrobeat passed away in 1997, all eyes turned to Femi Kuti. In spite of the inevitable comparisons, the latter quickly established himself as a charismatic showman, with long and rousing performances; at the same time he lent the music a softer feel. Femi Kuti starred at the Festival in 2007, as part of the tribute to Fela Kuti, who'd disappeared ten years earlier.
