Roy Hargrove

1969 -

Origin: United States

Main instrument: Trumpet

Genres: Jazz, Latin

Trumpeter Roy Hargrove was born in Waco, TX, in 1969. Musically inclined from a very young age, the gifted musician pursued advanced studies at the Booker T. Washington School for the Visual and Performing Arts, in Dallas. It was there that Wynton Marsalis discovered Hargrove's brilliant talents, resulting in an invitation for the young student to sit in with Marsalis's group and to rub shoulders with such jazz greats as Dizzy Gillespie and Freddie Hubbard. In 1990, he released his debut solo album, Diamond in the Rough, to world praise. Widely considered among his peers as one of the most innovative and finest trumpeters of his generation, Roy Hargrove has since released numerous acclaimed albums, including Emergence in 2009, featuring a 19-piece big band.
