Rémi Bolduc

Origin: Quebec, Canada

Main instrument: Saxophone

Genre: Jazz

St. Hyacinthe, Quebec-born saxophonist and composer Rémi Bolduc was already an experienced pro when he landed in Montreal at age 19. Pianist Vic Vogel was first to clock in on the promising musician; in no time, Bolduc was either rubbing elbows with Sayyd Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Bernard Primeau and Lorraine Desmarais or playing with The Beards. Scholarships from the Arts Council and the Ministère des Affaires Culturelles allowed him to study in New York City with Steve Coleman. Upon his return, Bolduc quickly became one of the most prominent musicians on the Montreal jazz scene. His discography includes 4+1, featuring mentor Jerry Bergonzi, the celebrated, Félix award-winning Hommage à Charlie Parker, and Random Masters (early 2013). A sought-after sideman and renowned soloist, Bolduc also teaches at McGill and Concordia universities.
