Origin: Quebec, Canada
This Canadian saxophone player launched his career in the 1980s with the Vic Vogel Big Band after studying classical music at the Université de Montréal. The versatile musician plays clarinet and flute and is equally at ease in the classical and pop repertoires. Influenced by such legends as John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, he has successfully patented a musical identity that's warm, raw and explosive. Leroux is also in demand as a session player: he has worked alongside the François Bourassa Ensemble and pianist James Gelfand. His first album, Corpus callosum, came out in 2009.
